Surgical management of solitary thyroid nodule in Somdejpraboromrajineenat Hospital

Abstract

A retrospective evaluation of 40 patients (37 females and 3 males) with solitary thyroid nodule, who underwent surgical lobectomy and isthmusectomy in Somdejpraboromrajineenat Hospital during the years 1996-2001 was made. The pathological results from 37 patients (not available in 3 patients) revealed malignancy in 4 patients (11%) and benign lesion in 33 patients (89%). Post-operative complications included temporary hoarseness and wound infection in one patient each.
